Lloyd Giese Obituary
Lloyd Irving Giese
January 31, 1954 – August 27, 2024
The family of Lloyd Irving Giese of Prince George, B.C. is saddened to announce his sudden passing of natural causes on August 27, 2024. He was 70 years old. He is survived by his son, Jason; mother, Dorothy Giese; siblings Karen (Roger), Brian (Shelley), Myrna (Lou) and sister-in-law Maria (Laurie); and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and their children. He is predeceased by his father Everett, brother Bruce, brother Calvin, sister Elaine, son Evan and daughter Brittany.
Lloyd was a kind, quiet child. He attended the camp school, called Tay, and later Kelly Road Secondary. He was not very interested in school, but rather was entrepreneurial from an early age. He and his brother Calvin pumped gas for customers of his Dad’s Hart Sports and Variety store and sported cloth bags filled with the many coins made as tips. Like his father, he had a talent for mechanical things such as any piece of heavy equipment that he wanted to build, fix, and operate. He owned and operated logging equipment, specifically a feller buncher, and logged all over northern BC including Williston Lake, Takla Lake, Fort St. James, and Prince Rupert.
For a brief time, Lloyd joined his father in the family gold mining venture on the El Dorado gold claim near Dawson City, Yukon before going back to logging again. The remainder of his career was spent in the bush: building roads in the oil patch of Alberta; clearing land for the Site C Dam; and, finally, operating equipment for various oil and gas projects. His colleagues at Frost Lake Logging appreciated his operating expertise, which was a combination of aptitude and skilled experience.
Over the years, Lloyd’s interests beyond work included making gold jewelry; recreating the Treadwell company’s Trail Partner bush bikes that his father invented decades before; and learning the intricate details of his favourite gambling game of roulette. Lloyd lived most of his life in Prince George except for a couple years when he moved to Choiceland, Saskatchewan to explore his family roots in the region. He enjoyed meeting new people and traveled to the southern U.S., Ontario, Vancouver Island, and was looking forward to seeing the Philippines.
Lloyd, we will miss having you drop by for coffee.
The service will be held at 11am on September 11, 2024 at Prince George Funeral Service at 1014 Douglas St., Prince George, B.C. After that a memorial luncheon will be held at 1:30pm at the Hart Pioneer Centre at 6986 John Hart Hwy.
