William de Vos Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Alfred de Vos, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, who departed this world on December 19, 2023, at the age of 66, after a short battle with cancer. Bill’s journey began on June 13, 1957, in Edmonton, Alberta, where he spent the first 41 years of his life.
A true entrepreneur and dedicated family man, Bill, alongside his brother Albert, co-owned and managed Queen City Meats in Edmonton until the summer of 1998. Seeking new opportunities, Bill, together with his family, relocated to Ontario, where he assumed the role of Managing Director for MMIS. His dedication to MMIS extended over two decades, culminating in his transition to a part-time role in 2022. Even in his semi-retirement, Bill’s commitment to working remained steadfast until his untimely departure.
In 2022, Bill and his wife Kathy found solace in the serene beauty of their fruit orchard in Summerland, British Columbia.
Bill’s legacy is one of profound impact, characterized by his roles as a provider, mentor, and leader in both business and family. His spiritual gift lay in his boundless service to others; a man who consistently made time for those in need. Whether lending a helping hand or sharing his wisdom, Bill’s generosity, intelligence, and humor endeared him to all who had the privilege of crossing his path.
A man of varied interests, Bill found joy in singing with the Robertson Wesley United Church choir, coaching his son’s football teams, and attending to the needs of those around him. His ability to tackle any challenge with a smile and a clever quip was his trademark until the end.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy de Vos, and their children: Leah Desjarlais, Jacob de Vos, Mike de Vos, and Ben de Vos. He leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Victoria de Vos, Harper Desjarlais, Theo Desjarlais, and Alice de Vos. Bill was the youngest among his brothers, Albert de Vos, Reyn de Vos, and Peter de Vos. Bill is predeceased by his Parents, Anne and Jack deVos.
In accordance with Bill’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at Canyon View Cemetery in Summerland on August 15, 2024. Details of the ceremony will be announced in due course. In lieu of traditional funeral services, we invite all who loved Bill to join us in honoring and celebrating the beautiful life he led.
