Norma Joan Hutcheson Obituary
Norma Joan Hutcheson (née McKay) passed away peacefully the afternoon of Friday, June 7, 2024, with the love of her family surrounding her.
Norma will be missed by her husband of almost 60 years, Doug; children, Brian (Lois), Terry (Wayne), grandchildren Liam, Aiden and Kaitlyn, sister Marilyn (Charlie) Richards, nephew Mike (Carrie) Richards and niece Leslie (Greg) Baxter, as well as special friends Ron and Marlene Wilson. Norma also enjoyed our extended family, Andy & Suzanne Robbins, Matt (Jamie), Brittany (Darren), Nick, Greyson, Emmett and Emma.
Norma was born in Trail, BC in 1945 to Andrew and Elsie McKay – a little sister to Marilyn. When Norma was 4 years old, Andy was tragically killed in an industrial accident, leaving Norma, Marilyn and their Mom to take on the world together. The bond between the three was strong as they faced life’s challenges together.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Norma was happiest when spending time with her family. When her boys were younger, the family enjoyed many camping trips, visiting relatives in Victoria, and fishing trips with friends and family. Norma spent many years as the billet coordinator for the Penticton Vees/Knights, where she became “Mom” to many hockey players during their stay in town. When her own sons grew up and joined Up With People, Norma loved traveling to watch them perform and meeting their friends. In her later years Norma rejoiced in spending time with her grandkids. She rarely missed a hockey tournament, school play or fundraiser. Norma also enjoyed volunteering for the Salvation Army, playing golf with her friends and doting on her dogs, Darby and Murphy.
The family would like to thank Drs. Daniel, Wilson and Bordeaux for their help in her final weeks. As well, thank you to the nurses and staff on the 4th floor of Penticton Regional Hospital, and the extremely kind and dedicated staff of Moog & Friends Hospice House. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Wendy Bence, whose assistance and friendship meant the world to Norma.
A Celebration of Norma’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 1:00PM at Everden Rust Funeral Services, 1130 Carmi Ave., Penticton.
No flowers by request, but memorial donations graciously accepted to Moog & Friends Hospice or the BCSPCA.
