Margery Ramey Obituary
Margery (Marge) Catherine Ramey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, and mentor, passed away peacefully at The Hamlets in Penticton, BC, on Friday, the 10th of November, after a long, heartbreaking decline from Alzheimer’s. She will be sadly missed.
Marge is survived by her children, Diane, Cheryl, Wanda, David (Lesley), and Yvonne (Craig); grandchildren, Christine, Loretta, Anne, Emily, Saul, and Kyra; and three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. It would be impossible to list her many dear friends scattered across North America. She was predeceased by her husband, Bud in 2021, an infant daughter in 1961, and by her parents, two brothers, and a sister in infancy.
Marge was born to Peter and Kay Jansen on February 16, 1939, in Aberdeen, SK, and had four younger brothers, Bill, Don, Ken, and Ted, who loved her dearly. They moved to Saskatoon in 1946, and their home was filled with music, and warm hospitality was extended to all.
In 1958, she met Edwin (Bud) Ramey from California, and after a courtship via the postal service, they married on May 9, 1959. The rest, as they say, is history. Right from the start, they were on the move. They spent time in California, Saskatchewan, Utah, and Alberta, finally landing in British Columbia. They formed lifelong friendships in each location that Marge took great care to cultivate, setting up a new address book everywhere she went and keeping in touch throughout the years.
Marge was a dedicated wife and mother, teaching her young family and creating a welcoming environment for many others, adopting an open-door policy. She loved, in no particular order, the outdoors, her family, friends, music, laughter, and helping others. She saved her pennies so the family could travel, managed a household of seven on a shoestring, remade hand-me-down clothes – recycling and repurposing before they were buzzwords, and somehow kept five kids in line. She loved playing Scrabble and Jenga and taught her children all sorts of games – indoor and out!
Marge and Bud always kept busy in their local congregation, acting as mentors to the young and assisting the elderly without considering social standing or ability to reciprocate. Marge’s faith and love for her god, Jehovah, sustained her throughout her life.
The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation and thanks to Dr. Andrew Robertson and the amazing staff at The Hamlets, who offered caring support and comfort right to the end. We can’t say enough about these folks who daily face dementia with kindness and grace. Thank you all!
A hybrid Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. PST.
