Doris Hudymka Obituary
Doris Dora Hudymka passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at the age of 94 years. She is predeceased by her husband, Steve Hudymka and her siblings, Willie Malek, Alex Malek and Mary Malek. She will be remembered with fondness by her sister In law, Olga Malek of Yorkton, Saskatchewan and a niece, Karen Malek, of High River, Alberta as well as a nephew, Douglas Malek, of Edmonton, Alberta. Doris also had two children.
Doris was born in Insinger, Saskatchewan and as a young woman was very involved in the Ukrainian women’s associations affiliated with the Ukrainian Orthodox church in that community.
She married Steve in 1947 and subsequently moved to Vernon and then finally Penticton. She continued Ukrainian baking traditions and was known throughout her Penticton neighbourhood for her wonderful Easter Bread and also for her preparation of other special Ukrainian Christmas dishes. She was extremely hospitable and always opened her home for tea and an ample supply of home baked goods.
Doris loved to garden. She kept an immaculate and beautiful garden and home until her move to Trinity Care centre, where she resided for 8 years.
She will be loved and remembered by her many good friends and especially by her “besties” who regularly visited and supported Doris up until her last days.
Memorial tributes may be made to any charity of choice.
