William (Bill) James Drake
December 31, 1946 to November 25, 2024
After five years of successful prostrate cancer treatment, Bill was diagnosed with an untreatable terminal lung tumor in June. He fought hard to stay with us as long as he could.
Born in Edmonton, Bill moved to British Columbia at the age of two. He was raised on the family strawberry farm outside of Victoria. Bill attended UVIC and UBC and had a fulfilling career as an accountant.
Bill is survived by his spouse, Barbara West; daughter Lauren and her husband Jake Kinney and their two daughters, Rae and Bri; son James Drake; and daughter Hilary Drake and her husband Ben Robertson and their two children, Kinley and Hansen. Bill would have wanted to also include the family dogs, Tucker and Marley.
After retirement, Bill was an active volunteer. One of his favourite highlights was being on course on Cypress Mountain when Canada won a gold medal at the 2010 Olympics. Bill thoroughly enjoyed volunteering with the Nelson Electric Tramway Society and chatting with all the riders.
A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
