In loving memory of
Bud (William Dellmund) Chapman
With great sadness, the family announces the passing of Bud, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Bud passed away quietly at home on January 18, 2024.
Born on April 23, 1937, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, to Bud Sr and Marjorie Chapman, Bud was the oldest child of four. Growing up in Vancouver, BC, where he graduated from Gladstone High School, Bud was also an active member of the Royal Canadian Air Force Reserve during high school and his early years. After high school, he attended Essondale for psychiatric nursing, where he met his wife, Marion Poole. They married on May 2, 1959, and had three children: Drew, Lori, and Leanne. Changing careers in 1960, Bud started a long and successful career working for Canadian Telephone and Supply, where he would hold various positions from equipment installer to supervisor and management.
Raising their family in Richmond, BC, Bud, Marion, and the kids would escape city life to spend their summers at the family property at Redfish Creek, and visiting family in Nelson, then eventually set down more permanent roots in the community with a move to Nelson in 1974. Returning to Richmond in 1978 and Ottawa in 1988 for work. Bud and Marion shared many more adventures in their world travels to Japan, Russia, Australia, Brazil, Fiji, and other locations along the way.
Retiring in 1996, Bud and Marion returned to Nelson to build their retirement home on the family property, where he resided until his passing. Retirement life on the lake was filled with beach days, bonfires, family, and friends. You could find Bud making wine or sitting on the beach with his feet in the lake with a cold beer in hand, enjoying a beach fire roasting hotdogs or entertaining friends and family on the deck with a glass of wine, basking in the quiet Kootenay life. In the community, Bud was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion in both Richmond and Nelson.
Bud leaves behind his loving family: wife, Marion; his son, Drew, and daughter Leanne (Chris); grandchildren, Corey, Chantel, Jaclyn (Michael), Curtis (Caitie) and James (Caela); great-grandchildren Jacob, Zachary, Cashous, Callie, Caleb, and Presley; and siblings, Terry Chapman, and Cheryl Palmer.
Bud is preceded in death by his parents, Bud Sr. and Marjorie, brother Darryl, daughter Lori and daughter-in-law Yvonne.
The family would like to thank the Nelson Home Care Community Support and Dr. K. McKechnie for the support and care shown to both Bud and Marion.
A memorial service to celebrate Bud’s life will be held for family and friends during warmer weather, with plans for a beach fire, hot dogs, and a cold beer.
