Jackeline Carol Lewis, ‘Jackie’, a beloved mother, sister, Nana, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024, at Mountain Lake Seniors Community in Nelson, BC.
She will be remembered as an incredibly giving and loving lady. Thrifty, creative, optimistic, and endlessly kind to everyone. She never passed up an opportunity to lend a hand. She was a talented crafter and artist who created countless pairs of ornate beaded earrings and crocheted everything from scarfs to afghans, which her friends and family will treasure for years to come.
Jackie was born in April of 1947 in Arcata California, a second child to Dale and Maybelle Currier. She often reminisced about her early years on the family dairy farm. She was proud to call herself a bit of a tomboy who loved to help her Dad in the barn when he allowed it.
She met and married her first husband, Gene Vibbert, in 1966. Choosing to avoid the Vietnam war draft they immigrated to Canada in 1970, firstly living in Grand Forks and later moving to Nelson in 1972. With Gene, Jackie had her first child, a son, Marc Vibbert and later, after arriving in Canada a daughter, Christina Wade.
In 1978 Jackie met her second husband and lifetime companion, Allen Lewis. Allen was a great dancer who swept her off her feet. Together they had a son, Victor Lewis.
One of Jackie’s favorite activities was ‘going for a drive’. Once she had you in the car she could talk your ear off and she loved to stop and look for treasures in every thrift store along the way. Christmas Eve was her time to shine. She would create an enormous and delicious spread of wonderful food, then invite the family as well as all her friends and neighbours to come and celebrate.
For many years Jackie was an active member of the Kootenay Quilters Guild. In later years she joined Proctor Seniors Community and was deeply involved in fundraising efforts for their building improvements by collecting thousands of dollars in bottles.
Jackie is lovingly remembered by her Sister Judy Currier, her children, Christina Wade (Bill), Victor Lewis (Jana), and Marc Vibbert (Tammy), her grandchildren, and many others.
The family is deeply appreciative to all the staff of Mountain Lake Seniors Community for the wonderful care she received during her final year.
A celebration of remembrance will be held in the spring and Jackie will be laid to rest in the Nelson cemetery. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.
