It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our mother.
Leona was born in Prince Rupert. In the 1960s, she trained as a hairdresser, traveled Europe, and opened her own business in Prince George. She later moved to Maple Ridge to raise a family and worked as a health care aide in geriatrics for Fraser Health, retiring in 2004.
Her compassion and kindness was known by many. She loved people, good shoes, unique jewelry and beautiful flowers.
Leona is survived by her sons Russell Murray and Steven (Randi) Murray and her granddaughters, Ruby and Laura May, her companion Kim Halonen, and her sisters, Anna Brown and Carole Helin, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
At Leona’s request, there will be no service and, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
The family thanks the McKenney Creek Hospice for their care of Leona in her last weeks.
