It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Armando Javier Fernandez at the young age of 50, at Ridge Meadows Hospital.
Armando will be remembered forever by his loving wife Kyla, of 28 years married, and 30 years together, and his 2 children Marcella (Brandon), and Nolan (Bre). Pre-deceased by both parents Patricio and Maria Eugenia, sister Soledad, and grandfather Fedor.
Armando was a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, bother-in law and friend, just to name a few. He will be dearly missed by all his friends and family.
Armando was born November 14th, 1973 in Santiago, Chile. In 1976, Armando immigrated to Edmonton, Alberta with his parents, and continued to live his childhood there, until 1985 when the family moved to Burnaby, BC then Richmond, BC in 1987. After graduating high school in 1992, he attended college and received a travel and tourism diploma. This is where he met his wife Kyla. He went on to work security positions at Douglas College and BCIT for 8 years. From 2005-2010, Armando worked in the facilities department at Capilano University. Unfortunately in 2010, Armando fell extremely ill, which changed his life forever. He was unable to work, and went to dialysis 3 times a week, until June 9th 2015. He received a call from Vancouver General Hospital that there was a donor kidney waiting for transplant. As the family said “We got our Armando back.” Armando continued to have his fair share of health concerns, but never let it affect his spirit. He was always had a positive care- free attitude, a big smile, and a good joke or story up his sleeve to always make people laugh. He devoted his free time to the First United Spanish Mennonite Church and served on the council for Kingcrest. He assisted with teaching English classes to new Canadian Immigrants and assisted them with their paperwork and daily needs. He was also an active board member for 20 years in the Maples Housing Co-op. Anyone who knew Armando knew he was an avid Seattle Seahawks fan, and was always wearing at least one article of clothing that represented his team.
Armando was nothing short of a family man. He always had an amazing support team in his friends and family, and always felt the love when he needed it the most. We know that he was so thankful for everyone.
There are no words to express our extreme sadness about the passing of Armando. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has reached out during this difficult time. We love you Armando.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday June 15th, 2024. Please RSVP to his daughter Marcella to confirm your attendance.
