Danko, Alexander
Alex, son of Michael and Elizabeth, passed away in his 91st year. Born Sep 15, 1933 in Montreal QC he passed away on Dec 17, 2023 in Maple Ridge BC with son, Shawn and daughter, Sheri by his side. Alex leaves behind granddaughter Alexa, daughter in-law Lana, son in-law Scott, grandson Blair, granddaughters Alana and April and newest addition great-grandson Harvey.
Alex grew up in the Colonial and Prince Arthur neighbourhood of Montreal and attended the Catholic High School of Montreal. He went on to a career with Clarke Transport and then in 1982 packed up the family and moved to Toronto to open a coffee franchise. Alex genuinely loved to volunteer and did so through coaching hockey and youth sports in Westmount QC, cooking in community kitchens and the Hungarian United Church. When Alex moved west to BC he settled into his new home at Haney Pioneer Village in Maple Ridge where his neighbours became his extended family and an integral part of his life.
He was a kind and thoughtful man. Those that knew him always said he had an infectious smile and would light up any room he walked in to. He will be missed by so many.
There will be a family gathering in Montreal, in spring of 2024, where he will lay at rest with his parents at Mount Royal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Alex would appreciate contributions to the Hungarian United Church of Montreal – 50 Graham Boulevard, Town of Mount Royal, QC, CANADA, H3P 2C1
