SCOTT, Barrie Robert
July 19, 1935 — November 1, 2024
With heavy hearts and warm memories, we announce the passing of Barrie Robert Scott, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend to all, on November 1, 2024, at Glenmore Lodge, surrounded by caring staff who knew him affectionately as “Papa Bear”. Born on July 19, 1935, in Dauphin, Manitoba, to Robert and Thelma Scott, Barrie lived a life rich with love, laughter, and purpose.
Barrie spent much of his career in Dauphin as the proud owner of Scott’s Hardware, where his hardworking spirit and dedication to his community were evident. In the 70s, Barrie journeyed West to Alberta, taking on a role as a hardware executive and eventually earning the honour of serving as President of the Canadian Retail Hardware Association (CRHA). His leadership left an indelible mark on the hardware industry across Canada.
After a fulfilling career, Barrie and his beloved wife, Allie, retired to embrace a life of adventure. Together, they travelled widely, spending cherished winters in Yuma, Arizona, and enjoying simpler pleasures like camping, shuffle boarding, and bowling. Allie predeceased him, and we know they are reunited now, sharing in laughter and joy once again.
Barrie was a man who thrived in the company of others. Known for his jovial spirit, love of practical jokes, and playful storytelling, he had an uncanny ability to light up a room and make everyone feel like family. His warmth, humour, and infectious joy will be missed by all who knew him.
He leaves behind a large and loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his children — son Ryan and grandson Curtis; daughter Allison, her husband Albert, and grandsons Clayton and Darryl; son Don, his wife Sherri, and grandchildren Brandon and Kathleen; daughter Sandra and her husband Brad; son Rob, his wife Shelly, and granddaughter Jordyn; daughter Susan, her husband Harry, and grandsons Austin and Hayden — as well as his sister Marilyn and her family. Each of them carries forward his legacy of love, laughter, and kindness.
Barrie spent his final years at Glenmore Lodge, where he formed special bonds with the dedicated staff, who came to love him like family. To those who knew him as “Papa Bear”, his memory will continue to bring warmth and smiles.
Papa Bear, you will be so dearly missed. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel, and though our hearts ache, we know you are now at peace.
