Roger von Dach Obituary
von Dach, Roger (May 11th, 1942 – June 30th, 2024) – Roger von Dach passed away at Kelowna General Hospital on June 30th, aged 82, after a mercifully short battle with lymphoma. His friends and family in Kelowna, across North America, and further abroad—will mourn his loss and treasure his memory. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Elna, and their son Martin, as well as Roger’s younger brother Remo, his wife Joanna, and their daughter Tanya. Roger von Dach was born May 11, 1942, in Zurich, Switzerland. In 1962, Roger completed his apprenticeship as an auto mechanic, the profession that would be the basis of his hobbies and career and eventually started his auto repair business in Zurich. After several visits to Canada and the US over the years, Roger moved to Kelowna in 1979, when he and his brother Remo started Swiss Brothers Super Shell on Harvey Avenue. Their parents, Hermann and Margareth, visited them soon afterward. They liked Kelowna so much that they sold their house in Switzerland and joined them in Kelowna the next year. He met his wife, Elna, who was originally from the Philippines, in Hong Kong. After two years of so many correspondence and visits, they married in 1988 and soon celebrated their son Martin’s birth on June 21, 1989. After the Shell, and later the Husky station and repair shop on Harvey, Roger and Remo started Swiss Brothers Coach Lines in 1994. In summers, they took groups of Swiss and German tourists across North America. However, during hockey season, they provided transportation for the Kelowna Rockets hockey club, and from the very first season, the franchise moved to Kelowna. Roger continued as the Rockets’ team driver and Transportation Director until his retirement in 2010. His love of the road kept him driving the occasional bus and organizing and driving smaller tours for friends and family right up until the last month of his life. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Everden Rust Funeral Services, 1910 Windsor Road in Kelowna—reception to follow.
