Patricia Jane McLeod Obituary
McLeod, Patricia Jane (Nee Markle, previously Tremblay) (May 1933-June 2024)
Patricia passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, her loving spouse Keith McLeod, daughters Cheryl (David), Susan (John) and Rachel, after a lengthy journey with cancer at Kelowna Hospice House.
Pat was born in Windsor, Ontario the daughter of the late Victor and Dolly Markle. Pre-deceased by her sister, Beverly Welsh and her son Mark Tremblay. She is survived by her sister Linda (Pickford) and her sister Beverly’s daughters Megan Thompson and Moira Welsh.
Pat was spoiled by many relatives during her childhood, often those without children. They gave her many books, clothes and treats and even took her off to Galt to spend times during the summer months.
Pat was a Farmerette, working on farms near Leamington, Ontario in the late 1940’s when men were in short supply to do farm work. The girls often suffered with sunburns, allergic reactions to peach fuzz and onion skins, but they formed bonds working and playing for the summer. Pat recently provided input and talked at length to the author of the biographical book.
Not long after high school, Pat met and married Raymond Tremblay. Within six short years, they had Cheryl, Susan, Rachel and Mark. Pat followed in her Mother’s footsteps and learned to stretch dollars to feed her family, sewing clothes, baking and canning to fill the pantry.
Pat was a woman before her time. Although she had stayed home to look after her young children, she went back to work in the late 60’s at various positions, always moving on to improve herself. She rose through the ranks of BC Tel (TELUS) and worked for a wonderful man she still kept in touch with. She learned new technology along the way and while fighting the change from the IBM Selectric typewriter, she mastered the computer in her final years of work.
Pat and Ray moved to Vancouver, BC in the late 1970’s. After being widowed at 52, Pat met and married her lovely partner, Keith McLeod. Keith was a very generous husband and frequently bought her beautiful jewellery to match her nice clothes. They travelled extensively, went dancing and held many parties and events to share with their friends. Pat was the ultimate entertainer. Pat and Keith have spent 34 wonderful years together, travelling and exploring the world. They moved from Vancouver to Kelowna in 2007 to be closer to family.
Pat was a life-long friend. She still kept in touch with people from high school and friends made wherever she lived, worked or travelled. This was a special gift she learned from her Mother, Dolly Markle.
She was extremely proud of her family. She found ways to have special visits in the summer with the grandchildren. She loved buying fancy dresses for the girls. She took the boys golfing, swimming and other activities. She was well known as the coupon queen, often having a discount coupon for activities or food. She knew how to save money and how invest it to make it grow. She was a force of nature and always had a goal she was working toward. She was known for her determination.
She is survived by her Grandchildren Melissa Pastinelli (Mathieu), Amy Rogers (Eric), Nicole Jordan (Matt), Scott Rogers (Taylor), Corrie Davidson (Julie), Nick McIntyre, Tanner Davidson (Taylor), Sarah Tremblay (Tobi), and Katie Tremblay.
Pat was very proud to be a Great-Grandmother (Nanny) to Adrien and Elliot Pastinelli, Korbin McIntyre, Julianna Rogers, Kieran, Nash and Coen Jordan. She has had special visits from many of her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren over the last year.
Pat’s family and friends celebrated many milestones in her life and have lots of good memories. Pat will be remembered for her generosity to family, friends and charities. Pat made it to her 91st birthday on May 20th although she knew the end was nearing.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 30th at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Susan and John McIntyre in Kelowna. Cremation will have taken place.
Donations in memory of Pat can be directed to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation (www.kghfoundation.com) or charity of your choice.
