Lona Munck passed away peacefully on September 10, 2023, surrounded by her children.
Everyone who knew her will miss her deeply, including: her children, Ruth (Ron) Rob, Kari (Clark) Purvis, and Erik (Jade) Munck; grandchildren, Hannah (Dave), Whitney (Michael), Erika, Ian (Maggie), Vienna, and Brock: great-grandsons, Mark and Luke; her siblings, Lynnie (Forry), Brian, Steve (Bev), and Joey (Lawrence); and her nieces and nephews. She has reunited with her husband, Jorgen; parents, Don & Ruth Becker; and brother Donny.
Lona was born in Calgary, AB and grew up in Banff, AB, where she developed a love for the Rockies, skiing, hiking, and art. She met Jorgen while studying physiotherapy at McGill University. They lived in many places and, along the way, welcomed Ruth, Kari, Erik and numerous Norwegian Elkhounds to the family. Lona started therapeutic riding and swimming programs for children as a home-care physiotherapist. She bravely transitioned to Health Care Administration when rheumatoid arthritis ended her physiotherapy career. In retirement, she travelled and developed her skills as an artist. Her proudest accomplishments were her grandchildren, who she described as “such fine people.”
The family thanks the medical professionals who helped Lona in her last months with special appreciation for Dr. Rachel Carver, Dr. Nathan Strauss, Mo, and everyone at Central Okanagan Hospice House for their kind and gentle care.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Arthritis Society Canada or Central Okanagan Hospice Association would be appreciated.
A Service of Celebration of Lona’s life will be held on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2023, at 10:00 am (PDT), at CENTRAL OKANAGAN UNITED CHURCH, 721 Bernard Avenue, Kelowna, BC. If you are unable to attend in person, please join the family online by Zoom. Please contact the family for the”meeting ID” and passcode. As an alternative, you may also view the service online by visiting the church’s Facebook page.
