It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ray Denby, who passed away on October 9, 2024, at the age of 85. Born in Epsom, England, on November 5, 1938, Ray’s journey brought him and his beloved bride, June, to Canada in 1966. What was intended to be a two-year stay turned into a lifetime, as they built their home and family in Canada, where they celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage.
Ray was a devoted father to his three children: Neil (Carmen) and Ray’s grandchildren, Nelson and Alex; Nigel (Janice) and grandchildren, Holly and Jonah; and Nicola (Derek) and grandchildren, Eric and Ryan. His love for his family was at the heart of everything he did.
A mechanical engineer by trade, Ray had a distinguished 30-year career with BC Hydro. He was a pioneer of the Power Smart program, which continues to shape energy conservation across the province.
After his retirement, Ray enjoyed 20 years of well-earned relaxation, filling his days with travel, golfing, and spending cherished moments with his family and friends. He also found a new passion in lawn bowling, where he made many fun memories and lasting friendships on the greens. Ray was a proud volunteer ambassador at Kelowna Airport for 12 years, where he greeted travellers with his signature dry wit and warm demeanour.
Known for his generosity and his endearing habit of buying electronics from Best Buy only to return them, Ray was a man who made an unforgettable impression on those around him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His dry sense of humour, his kindness, and his love for life will be forever remembered. Rest in peace, Ray Denby.
