Obituary
David John Michie passed away suddenly on the morning of Monday, October 9, 2023 in his home in Westbank, B.C. at the age of 74.
He is survived by his wife Dixie, children Jennifer (Bob), Sandra (Jason), Katie (Jeff) and Kevin (Chelsea), grandchildren Alex, Sadie, Amy, Sarah, Charlie, Dylan, Gus and Ruby, and brother Bob (Rose), and many more loving friends and family.
There will be a small celebration of life at the Sonoma Pines Clubhouse in Westbank at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14. Another celebration will be held in Ontario on a date and time to be announced.
Dave was born and raised in Mimico, ON. to Bruce and Janet (Purvis) Michie. He attended the University of Toronto before beginning a career in insurance spanning several decades, which included stops at Aetna, Sedgwick, Liberty International and Benson Kearley. An early retirement from the insurance industry brought Dave and Dixie to Westbank, where Dave then came out of retirement, working as a passionate member of the Two Eagles Golf Course backshop team.
The family wishes to thank the Sonoma Pines community in Westbank, including Dave’s colleagues at Two Eagles. Dave was passionate in his love for family, but also golf, fishing, standardbred horse racing, the Toronto Argonauts, the Toronto Blue Jays and, of course, the Toronto Maple Leafs. Please do not pass judgement on his Maple Leafs fandom because, as Dave liked to say, “it doesn’t make me a bad guy.”
