As we say goodbye to our dear Aunt, we wanted to reflect on her life and what a wonderful lady she was.
Betty was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan in July 1928, the youngest of five sisters. The family moved to BC in her early years to North Enderby, Mara, Langley, and Westbank. In Westbank, Betty lived at the ferry dock on the west side of Okanagan Lake where her parents, Archie and Ellen, operated a tearoom for ferry patrons. Betty went to school in the little Boucherie School in Westbank and then to Kelowna High School until graduation. Betty was predeceased by her sisters Margaret and Helen Wood of Sicamous, Marion Rands of Enderby, and Marjorie Brown of Summerland.
Betty died December 23rd, 2024at Lakeview Lodge in Westbank. She was loved by staff and called Lakeview home for almost a year. For four years before that she spent her time enjoying life at Westwood Retirement Home, also in Westbank. For many years before that, Betty spent her time working as a traffic manager for a lumber company and absolutely loved her life in her favourite city, Vancouver.
Betty was an independent lady who chose to remain single. She loved spending most of her summers with her sisters and their families at Betty’s cabin in Sicamous. Betty leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as their families.
How deeply inspired we are by the lasting memories of her humour, grace, intelligence, and the independence she navigated life with.
There will be no service as per Betty’s wishes, but a family gathering will be held in the spring. Anyone wishing to make a donation in honour of Betty, we encourage you to make that donation to a charity of your choice.
We all love you Auntie Betty.
