Obituary
Arthur Harold Gust
March 26, 1940, to November 17, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arthur Gust. After a long battle with Alzheimer’s, surrounded by his loving family, Art went to be with his Saviour on November 17, 2023, at the age of 83.
Art Gust was born on March 26, 1940, on the family farm near Minitonas, Manitoba. He was the 13th child of 16 of Rudolph and Emma Gust. Art attended school at Swanford School, Minitonas School and at the Christian Training Institute in Edmonton.
He tried his hand at a few different jobs in Ontario and Alberta before settling back in the Minitonas area where he started a farm and his family. He was married in June 1968 to Nora Penner, his loving wife of 55 years. He was a devoted and beloved father to three children, Elroy (1969), Winston (1971) and Roma (1975).
Art and his family lived on the farm until 1988, then moved to Bowmanville, Ontario, where he began a pallet management business. Through God’s blessing, Art’s entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic he built a successful warehousing business, which he sold in 1999.
Art was happy to welcome his children’s spouses to the family, first Marlene Behnke, who married Elroy in 1990, then Katherine John, who married Winston in 1998 and finally Aaron Beaudoin, who was married to Roma in 2012. He was also the proud grandfather of Alex, Holly, Connor, Jack, Melanie, Chloe, and James and was loved and appreciated by all.
Art was an active member of the community and positively impacted the lives of those around him. Art loved God and followed Jesus throughout his life. He loved the church community and was a valued member of the congregations he was part of, especially the Baptist Church in Minitonas and the Free Methodist Church in Courtice.
Art and Nora retired to an acreage near Courtland Ontario where they loved to host their family and then in the last few years they lived in Burlington, Niagara Falls and finally Kelowna.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Friends and family are invited to share in a celebration of Art’s life on January 20, 2024, at 1:00 pm in Kelowna (location to be announced on Castanet). In lieu of flowers, please send donations to one of Art’s favourite places, Wesley Acres. www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/wesley-acres-inc
May Art’s soul rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
