Marlene Miller Obituary
Marlene Myrtle Galbraith Overmann Miller left this earthly life on May 26, 2024 in Golden, British Columbia, just as she lived it, surrounded by family who loved her dearly. She was born Doreen Fay Galbraith on June 20, 1946 in Regina, Saskatchewan to Maizie Galbraith and Richard Gilchrist. Her parents made the most loving, difficult, unselfish decision to offer Marlene a better opportunity at life. She began her life’s journey with her loving adoptive parents, Myrtle Mansfield Overmann and Eric Overmann when Eric travelled by train from Shellbrook, to Regina, Saskatchewan to bring Marlene home. Her Mother had everything waiting for them to arrive, and worried about Marlene catching cold in the winter. Marlene and her family looked forward to her younger brother, Bruce, to arrive in Lacombe, Alberta three years later.
As Marlene was blessed with several families, she is welcomed into Heaven by her Mother and Father, Myrtle and Eric Overmann, her birth Father, Richard Gilchrist, infant sisters, Norma Ann Overmann, Rose Galbraith, and brother Ray (Lana) Therens. She is survived by her birth mother, Maizie Galbraith Therens of Moose Jaw, SK, her aunt Mayleen Galbraith Scott of Victoria, BC, her uncles, Ed Mansfield of Calgary, and Eric (Ruth) Gilchrist of Red Deer, AB. She is also survived by her brother Bruce (Linda) Overmann of Calgary, AB, sisters Deb Gilchrist Elash (Cam) of Saskatoon, Gaylene Galbraith (Dick) Legare, and Donna Galbraith of Moose Jaw, SK, brothers Bev (Kathy) Therens of Saskatoon, Keith Therens of Moose Jaw, Stewart (Heather) Gilchrist, and Mark (Jule) Gilchrist of Regina, SK.
Leaving to treasure her memory are her children, Allan (Yvonne) of Golden, Donna (Terry) Jones of Cranbrook BC, Brian (Jo) of Red Deer, AB, ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also to remember Marlene are nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.
Marlene moved with her parents in 1947 from Shellbrook, SK to Irricana, AB where she grew up and attended school. She met and married Bert Miller in 1963 in Beiseker, AB. They moved to Golden, BC where Marlene spent her time raising their three children, while excelling as an accountant / bookkeeper for Miller business enterprises.
Prior to her passing, Marlene expressed her deep appreciation to all her families and everyone who supported her in her life journey: Mansfield, Overmann, Galbraith, Therens, Gilchrist. She loved and was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also gave a shout out to all her friends, and Pat & Bill Allen who loved and encouraged her – they were an integral part of her life. Her son Allan and daughter-in-law, Yvonne cared for her until Marlene passed from this earth with the help of friends, family, and community support.
We would love for everyone to come and share a celebration of Marlene’s life at the Golden Seniors Centre, June 22nd, 2024 at 1:00 pm with a tea to follow at the same location.
