Monica Robb Obituary
Monica Robb nee Barker was born Sept. 3, 1930 in Toronto to immigrant parents from England. She passed away Oct. 21, 2024 (age 94).
Monica received a scholarship to study architecture at the University of Manitoba. She graduated in 1954 and got a job in Calgary City Planning. She met the dynamic artist Roy Kiyooka and they become friends. Then she got an architecture job in Nelson, BC. Roy visited her in Nelson and they married April 9, 1955. They went to Mexico where Roy had a scholarship to study at Institute Allende. They had 3 daughters and lived all over the country where Roy’s teaching career at Universities took them. Monica also worked in architects’ offices and for a civil engineer.
Monica designed a house in North Vancouver on Riverside Dr., which she won a National award for. She divorced Roy in 1972 and got a job in 1974 with BC Hydro architecture department until she took an early retirement in 1987. She had been dating Donald Robb, an electrician who moved in with her in 1973, they had fun dancing at the Hot Jazz Club. He wore a cool purple velvet suit and had a strong social activist personality-he was not afraid to speak out against what he felt were injustices. She married him in 1988. Later she designed and had a house built in Wilson Creek and they moved there to be grandparents.
Finally, Monica and Don moved to Sechelt, from there they travelled all over the world on cruises, or guided tours with family and friends. Monica took up painting, volunteered for the arts centre and for the NDP. Don passed away in 2015, and in 2019 Monica moved into a care home called Totem, until all the residents were moved to Silverstone in January 2024. Special thanks to the wonderful care providers at Totem and later Silverstone.

Monica is survived by 3 daughters, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
