Moira Clement Obituary
Moira Clement, 94, of Sechelt, passed quietly Sept 23 2024 at Sechelt Hospital with her family at her side.
She was born in Vancouver, February 14th 1930, eldest daughter to Johnstone and Mary Lilian Flockhart.
Moira is survived by her sister Lilian Amiel (Ron), son Michael (Dianne), daughter Patti, 3 grandchildren Kelly, Bryan and Debbie, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband Jack and son-in-law Ron.
Moira attended Hastings, Templeton and Britannia schools in Vancouver.
As a youngster she took piano lessons, was awarded medals in Highland dance, Ballet and Tap.
Her family holidayed on Bowen Island where she met the love of her life and future husband.
She married Jack Clement in 1947. They had two children, Michael and Patti.
She worked briefly as a B.C. Tel operator and an illustration assistant for a drafting firm before moving to the Sunshine Coast in 1952. Moira became the book keeper when they purchased the then recently closed Howe Sound Co-operative Jam Factory on Henry Road. That location became the operations center for their wholesale beverage distribution business for the next 50 years.
On the Sunshine Coast Moira was involved with PTA, she was a founding member of the annual Sea Cavalcade, Sunshine Coast Golf Club, Gibsons Curling Club and served on the board of the Yacht Club. As an early member of the Rod and Gun Club she hunted and fished with the best of them. Moira was a long time supporter/volunteer at the Sunshine Coast Salmonid Enhancement Society. She helped coach the local Legion’s Junior Olympic Track and Field Training Program. She enjoyed playing bridge, and attended 37 years of the Festival of the Written Arts. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. Moira traveled extensively. She spent considerable time exploring 6 of the 7 continents. She loved photography, her garden, reading and socializing with her many friends. She was as happy at their one room cabin in the Cariboo as she was cruising on the Seine. She loved her cats.
Jack and Moira retired to the just completed Port Stalashen complex where they met and entertained many old and new friends during their senior years.
Moira was loved by all who knew her, especially her family, and will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Spithoff, the staff at Sechelt Hospital and VCH Home Care for their support over the last couple of years.
Moira’s wishes were cremation and no service.
