Michael Joseph Richer May 25, 1955 – August 20, 2024
Mike passed away suddenly, at home in Gibsons, in the early morning of August 20th. He was only 69. Everyone was shocked at the loss of such a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. His absence is profoundly felt. He leaves his wife Chris Lawson, children – Eric, Andrea and Chandra and her husband Andrew, and three amazing grandchildren – Abigail, Lachlan, and Arthur; his late sister Anne Marie’s daughter Marlee; sister-in-law Claire; brother-in-law Pete and his beloved dog Lenny. He was born in Windsor, then moved west in 1980. In 2020 Mike and Chris moved to Gibsons where they planned to spend the next 50 years of their lives. Mike was an electrician and retired from Eaton, nine years ago where he was the BC Construction Team Sales Manager. In 2015, he was inducted into the ECABC Hall of Fame as a well-respected member of the electrical industry. Throughout his career he worked on many large projects such as the Children’s Hospital, office towers, arenas, and water treatment plants. Mike was a man of many passions. He curled, raced sailboats, played guitar, and liked his music loud. He loved the ocean, rock and roll, blues and travelling. He was passionate about sailing. In White Rock, he joined the LMYC, a sailing co-op. In Gibsons, he was very active with the Club Boat Program and the Yacht Club. He was able to fix things. A MacGyver. He was a gentle, kind guy with a great smile, but above all he was a family man. Mike always cared. He was a good man. There are not enough of his type in the world, and we are all poorer for it. That we are.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Harmony Hall, 686 Harmony Lane, in Gibsons, B.C. Doors open at 1:00pm
