Gordon Clendenning Obituary
This obituary is done in the simple informal way that Gordon preferred and lived by.
Gordon was born in Montreal, Quebec on October 6, 1958. He passed away much too soon on April 30th, 2024 in Sechelt, BC. Gordon was 66 years young and still had much to live for, experience and share his love for. He always enjoyed living life his way, with energy, hard work and a quiet confidence. Gordon adored both of our parents and was very close to Mom and before Dad’s passing was always found by his side. Gordon was the beloved middle son of Douglas & Eileen; he had 5 siblings, Clifford, Janet, Doris, Susan and Glenn. Gordon was a private man and remained a quiet presence in all our lives. We knew that if he was needed, he’d be there in a heartbeat and surprise us all. He will be forever missed by everyone.
As a youth Gordon was involved and enjoyed sports. His love of sports had him watching everything from hockey to basketball, golf and the list goes on. He was an avid follower and had a wealth of knowledge on any game which he then would happily share over a beer. You always knew he’d be close to a screen whenever there was a game. Even towards the end of his life, Gordon was content watching games and keeping track of his favourite teams.
Over the years Gordon lived a happy lifestyle and we’d jokingly say a “Hippie life” only because he loved to move around. He became a proud parent with Barbara McBeth Clendenning of two children. He was proud of his beautiful daughter, Kristy and proudly named his son, Douglas after our Dad. Another proud achievement was becoming a Red Seal Chef, and Gordon happily cooked professionally in various establishments from Squamish to Dawson City to Sechelt and others. He had a good strong work ethic like our parents and was always a sought after Chef by other restaurants. Being a strong confident man he always smiled at any jokes or humour directed at himself. Over the years and within the family he’d be teased for sporting his “pony tail” or “rat tail” hairstyle, yet he’d just smile and wink and carry on.
He is lovingly missed by his sweetheart, Jackie Coombs of Sechelt and her own family that she shared with him over the last years. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Jackie for her time and loving devotion she showed Gordon every day. Our thanks also goes to Sechelt Hospital staff and Silverstone Care Centre for the care they took to make Gordon’s last days comfortable.
Gordon will be forever missed and loved by his daughter Kristy, his son Douglas, daughter-in-law Dawn, sweet granddaughters Kylie & Sloan. Gordon was blessed to have had many happy visits over the years with his children. His final days were complete as he had his beloved children close at hand, which made his heart and spirit warm.
The blessing in being family is being there when you are needed, holding a hand, giving a hug, and saying “I Love You” while saying goodbye. We picture Gordon quietly sitting in Heaven with our Dad, Janet & Danny all happily and loudly watching hockey together again.
