Darlene May Dewitt (Underhill) passed away peacefully on July 19, 2024.
Born December 14, 1949, in Sioux Lookout Ontario, Darlene called Vancouver Island home for much of her life, settling on the Sunshine Coast in 1989.
Those of us blessed to call her Mom, Nanny, Sister and Friend know that her heart was big, her feet were tiny and her home always open. From fresh coffee to a fridge full of “cold ones”, and her world-famous Clam Chowder, no one ever left Dar’s house hungry or thirsty!
Always on the go, Darlene spent her life in service to others. Her petite frame belied her strength and that was never more evident than during her 16 years working as a janitor for the Sunshine Coast School District. Legend has it that Darlene was often seen whipping down halls running behind the floor buffer like the Tazmanian Devil in high heels!
We have lost every room’s hardest worker, our loudest cheerleader and our most trusted ally.
Darlene will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Her spirit lives in the eyes of her children, Doug, BJ, Colleen and Gerri-Lynn. Her 9 grandchildren, Brittany, Beau, McKenzie, Kaitlynn, Carter, Brady, Brenna, Maddie and Miles and her great grandson Jaxson.
The work of showing her children how to be kind, loving humans now rests with her twin sister Marlene, her little sister Wendy and little brother Robert. Their connection to each other will never be broken.
Darlene is preceded in death by her loving husband Benjamin Dewitt, who we know was there to greet her with open arms, a wide smile, twinkling eyes and a cold beer.
