Anna Sinke Obituary
Anna Sinke (nee Heres) from Groningen, Netherlands was a much-loved daughter, wife, and mother and friend and it’s with great sadness we announce her passing. She died peacefully on April 28, 2024, at the age of 92 in Maple Ridge.
We would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Baillie House in Maple Ridge for their care of our mother over these last years.
She is survived by her seven children: Peter, Sophie, Adri, Wilma, Rutger, Louise and Esther, their spouses, and nine grandchildren.
As a young woman, Anna moved to New Zealand seeking a new life and adventure. She trained to be a nurse in Auckland and married another Dutch expat, Johannes Jan Sinke.
They lived in Auckland, then Nelson and raised their six children. In 1968 they started a new adventure in Richmond, British Columbia and completed their family with their seventh child. They settled into life on a small farm in Stave Falls outside of Mission, BC, then retired to Gibsons on the sunshine coast.
Anna was a strong, intelligent woman with a fierce determination to leave the world better than she found it. She loved her animals and her garden and was a strong supporter of environmental causes.
She will also be remembered as a woman who was strong in her Christian faith and gave generously to the ministry. It’s that faith that comforts her family now.
There will be a private celebration of life with the family, then Anna will be buried beside her husband at the Seaview cemetery in Gibsons at 2pm on Monday, May 6th.
