Obituary of Carla Armstrong
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carla Armstrong, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, who left us on October 24, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on June 9, 1939, to Ralph and Agnes Pomeroy, Carla grew up alongside her older brother Glen, her younger sister Linda, and a host of cherished cousins and friends. After completing high school, Carla earned her teaching certificate from the University of British Columbia. Her eyes would twinkle when she spoke of dancing the night away(past curfew), teaching in downtown Vancouver and backpacking throughout Europe.
In 1962, she married Bud Vennes, and together they raised their two daughters, Carol and Jill. Carla’s lifelong passion for horses was a joy she shared with her family, spending many summer days traveling to horse shows and expanding their hobby farm. Carla and Bud were very involved in the community and enjoyed attending various social events. During this time, Carla continued to teach part time and shared her love of music with her students.
In 1994, she married Barry Armstrong, welcoming his children, Dan and Daphne into her life. Carla and Barry enjoyed traveling, gardening, camping and hunting. In 1995, Carla became a grandmother and spent countless hours with her grandchildren. Fond memories of fun, creative activities and hours of creek walking will be cherished forever by Marie, Jessica and Riley. In retirement, Carla rediscovered her passion for painting and explored energy healing, becoming a certified Healing Touch practitioner. Her boundless energy and zest for life inspired all who knew her.
Carla is survived by her husband Barry; daughter Jill(Ed); son-in law Dave; stepchildren Daphne(Jason) and Dan; grandchildren Marie, Riley and Jessica; step-grandchildren Lacey(Steve) and Tanner(Alana); and great-granddaughter Everly. She was predeceased by her sister, Joy; and her cherished daughter Carol, whose memory remains forever in our hearts.
A celebration of Carla’s life will be held on November 25, 2024, at 2 PM at the Pomeroy Hotel. Family and friends are warmly invited to join us in celebrating the life of this spirited woman.
