Jeremy Shane Hales was a man who embraced life with an adventurous spirit and a heart as vast as the outdoors he loved so dearly.
From a young age, Jeremy’s curiosity and fearlessness were unmistakable. Whether he was climbing the tallest tree, exploring the woods, or creating vivid imaginary worlds, his love for life and his bold approach to the unknown were evident from the start. This spirit of adventure shaped the remarkable man he became—genuinely kind, always authentic, and gifted with the ability to see the good in everything and everyone.
Jeremy found peace in nature, especially out on the water or in the woods, where he was truly in his element. A fisherman at heart, he cherished the quiet moments by the water’s edge, where time seemed to stand still and his connection to the earth deepened. The outdoors was his sanctuary, a place where his spirit could roam free.
Creativity was woven into every aspect of Jeremy’s life. He was an artist, not just in the traditional sense, but in the way he lived. His stories were long and captivating, his nicknames unique and endearing, and his perspective on the world transformed the ordinary into something truly special.
Generosity and kindness were at the core of who Jeremy was. He gave freely of his time, energy, and love, making everyone around him feel valued and cherished. His warmth and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Jeremy was the life of every gathering, bringing laughter and joy with his fun-loving spirit and boundless energy. He had a rare gift for turning everyday moments into extraordinary ones, filling them with light and happiness.
Though Jeremy passed away suddenly and far too soon, it’s important to remember him not for the circumstances of his passing, but for the incredible person he was. He was more than the challenges he faced; he was a bright, shining presence in our lives, bringing joy, love, and creativity into the world.
To those who knew him, Jeremy was more than just a friend or family member—he was a beacon of light, someone who lifted spirits and brought comfort with his smile, stories, and unwavering kindness. His legacy is one of love, generosity, creativity, and a zest for life that we will carry with us always.
Jeremy’s memory will forever be cherished by his mother, Cidnee Hales Johnson; his daughter, Danika Hakala Hales; his sister, Lisa Hales; his nephews, Jesse and Jayson Hales; and his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A casual Celebration of Life will be held at Providence Farm from on September 28, 2024, from 1-3 pm. 1843 Tzouhalem Road, Duncan, BC
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Jeremy’s name to Night Owl Island Outreach would be appreciated.

Tribute to My Son
The greatest gifts I’ve ever received
Were you, my Jeremy, and your sister, Lisa,
My miracle babies, my joy, my light.
I never imagined the day would come
When I’d have to say goodbye to you,
My heart shattered, my world turned gray.
No mother should outlive her child,
But here I stand, broken,
Clinging to the memories of you.
You were born with a goodness
That shone brighter than the sun.
Always willing to lend a hand,
A kind and gentle soul,
With laughter that could light up the darkest room.
Your humor, your politeness,
The way you saw the world—
So full of optimism, joy,
And that smile—oh, that smile
That I’ll never forget.
You had a way of making life beautiful,
In the little things—the way you dressed,
Always so impeccable,
Matching your shoes, your tie, your shirt.
And the way you made me feel loved,
With a simple phone call,
“Hi Mom, I’m OK. How are you?”
Those words, those moments,
They’re treasures now,
Held close to my heart.
I’ll miss the way you’d walk in,
Straight to the fridge, to the pantry,
Creating meals that were more than food—
They were love, they were you.
I’ve saved your voice messages,
Little pieces of you that keep me company,
So I don’t feel so alone.
You never believed how amazing you were,
But Jeremy, you made this world better
Just by being in it.
You’re loved more than words can say,
By me, by your sister, by so many
Who were touched by your kindness.
Now, I picture you in Heaven,
Tending a garden, finding peace in nature,
Shopping for the finest clothes,
And fishing with your Dad and Uncles.
I hope you’ve found joy there,
In the beauty of it all.
I love you, my son,
And I miss you every day.
Until we meet again,
Know that you are forever in my heart.
Love,
Mom xoxoxo

Grief never ends, but it changes. It is a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness nor a lack of faith: it is the price of love.
