Harold Edwin Henschel Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harold Edwin Henschel, a longtime resident of Progress, British Columbia. Harold went “home” on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at the Dawson Creek Hospital, at the age of 88 years. His family were privileged to be by his side.
Harold was the only son of Ed and Marie (Bartsch) Henschel, of Rosthern, Saskatchewan. He spent his formative childhood years in Rosthern before his family moved down to the mainland. Most of those years on the mainland were spent in Abbotsford. Following graduation, Harold worked as a carpenter, all the while building his own chicken barns and caring for multiple laying hens. His desire was always to farm/ranch, so after the death of his mother, Harold moved to the Peace Country in 1963, along with his father and sister. Then began a lifetime of constructing and building “Frosty Gulch.” He married Sharon Dagg in 1974, and soon their family began to grow. Kelly was born in 1976, Sean in 1978, and Kipp completed the family in 1980.
Harold had several loves in his life. First was his love for the Lord, and though he wasn’t always verbal about his faith, he expressed it by his actions. His love for his wife of just short of 50 years along with his children and their spouses, and his grandchildren was constant and strong. He loved his Mennonite heritage, all his many building projects, and of course, restoring, refurbishing, and reminiscing about all his antiques.
Harold leaves to grieve his loss but rejoice in his “homecoming” his wife Sharon; children Kelly (Ken) Rempel, Sean (Erin Robinson) Henschel, Kipp (Jen Johns) Henschel; and grandchildren Zara, Silas, Orrin, Rylyn, Logan, and Mackenzie.
Harold’s family would like to invite everyone to a Celebration Of Life for Harold on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Peace Mission Chapel, Progress, British Columbia. Pastor Bill Mann will officiate. Interment will be at a later date.
