David “Jack” John Dilworth Obituary
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of David John (Jack) Dilworth, a resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the age of 92 years.
Jack was born on February 20, 1932, in Sunrise Valley, B.C. He lived on the family farm until his late teens, when he moved to Alberta to work on the oil rigs. While working in Violet Grove, Alberta, Jack met and married the love of his life, Eunice Allen, in 1956.
A short time later, they moved back to Sunrise Valley where they farmed and raised their three daughters Arla, Shelley, and Colleen. In addition to farming, Jack also drove fuel truck for the Royalite Company.
In the early 1970s, the family moved from the farm to Dawson Creek, B.C. and Jack started working in the lumber industry and spent the rest of his working years moving up in the industry. He finished his career as Quality Control Manager for Canfor in Taylor, B.C.
Jack also taught lumber grading for many years and received many awards and accolades for his excellent work.
Jack loved the outdoors. Hunting, fishing and camping brought him great joy. He also enjoyed planting and tending to his vegetable gardens and took great pleasure in tending his tomatoes and cucumbers. Jack loved music. His favourite music artist was Johnny Cash although he was also known to rock out to old time Rock and Roll. He loved to dance and even in his later years when he lived in Rotary Manor, he was known to have a dance or two in the hallway with his daughters when a live band was playing. Jack and his wife travelled throughout British Columbia, the Yukon and the United States sightseeing and camping with family and friends.
Above all, Jack was a family man. His greatest enjoyment came from being with his wife, his daughters and their spouses, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many nights were spent around a campfire or the dining room table telling stories and jokes.
Jack spent the final 8 years of his life in Rotary Manor on a prolonged journey with Alzheimer’s disease.
Jack was pre-deceased by his wife Eunice; daughter Arla; son-in-law Olaf; parents Ernest and Elizabeth Dilworth; brothers Dick, George, Dennis; sisters Eileen, Doreen, Denise, and Pat.
He leaves to mourn his passing and carry on his legacy his daughters Shelley Dilworth-Mills (Nolan Mercier), and Colleen Lambert (Mike Lambert); grandchildren Clayton Hegge, Ashley McCabe (Kevin), Tyler Lambert (Robyn), Mandy Luck (Brodie); great grand-children Caylie and Ryan Hegge, Avery and Morgan McCabe, and Samantha, Gregory and David Lambert; as well as many extended family and friends
Jack’s family wishes to invite you to a Celebration of Life social gathering to share stories and memories while enjoying some refreshments at Reynars Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 1:00 pm.
For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Jack to the Alzheimer’s Society of British Columbia, #300 – 828 West 8 Avenue, Vancouver, British Columbia, V5Z 1E2 or a charity of your choice.
