It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Augustin Laurent “Larry” Desaulniers on November 14, 2024 after a short battle with cancer in Castlegar BC.
Larry was born July 25, 1939 the third son of Moise and Valeda Desaulners in Rainy River, ON. After highschool he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1958. He met the love of his life, Noella, in Edmonton and they were married in 1963. They had two children, a son, Michael followed by their daughter, Rochelle. The family enjoyed air force life, moving frequently from one side of the country to the other, and spent a year in West Germany.
In 1980, Larry retired from the Air Force and the family moved to Caslegar, where he was employed by the Trail detachment of the RCMP until he retired in 1999.
Larry was an all around good guy, who enjoyed life immensely and had a variety of hobbies and interests. He appreciated all the outdoor opportunities that the Kootenays offered. During his years he boated, kayaked, rode his bike, and skied. However, more often than not he could be found at the golf course.
Larry more than anything loved his family and especially his adored grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Noella, his daughter, Rochelle (Ron) Neufeld, and grandchildren Sabrina, Kurt, and Nathan Neufeld. He was predeceased by his son Michael, as well as both of his brothers, Henry and Omer, and his parents.
A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 11am at Castlegar Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice.
