Sybil Ellen (Mackenzie) Jones / Cooke
April 1932 – October 2023
Sybil Cooke nee Mackenzie passed away peacefully on October 16th, 2023 in Vancouver, BC. Born in Vancouver, she was the youngest child of Dorothy and William Mackenzie. She attended high school at York House and subsequently completed secretarial training.
In 1953, Sybil married Gordon Jones and together they traveled and enjoyed adventures in various countries including India, Kenya and Malaysia. After living in Edmonton, Alberta for more than a decade, the couple moved to the West Coast, following Gordon’s retirement. In Victoria, Sybil worked at the Kensington Retirement Residence for a number of years.
Following the death of her first husband, Gordon Jones, Sybil met and married Bruce Cooke in 1994. During her second marriage, Sybil again traveled extensively and enjoyed living in Kelowna (with Bruce’s family), Duncan, and Victoria, BC. Following Bruce’s death, Sybil moved to Vancouver to be closer to her daughter, Kathy and other family members.
She will be fondly remembered by her daughter, Kathy, her granddaughter, Saguna, her cousin, Christine, and other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Sybil will be held on December 29th, 2023.
