Barbara Anne Stewart passed away on the 24th of August, 2024 in Vancouver. She will be deeply missed by husband Robert (Bob), son Timothy, and brother Howard Miller.
Barbara was born on 2 October, 1937 in Lacombe Alberta. She grew up on a farm near Blackfalds, Alberta with 10 brothers and sisters. Growing up on a farm gave her a deep affection for animals, particularly horses and dogs.
Barbara graduated as a registered nurse from Edmonton General Hospital in 1959 and worked for over 40 years in hospitals and home care. Colleagues remembered her as a terrific, kind, and compassionate nurse.
Barbara had many joys in life including dogs (corgis), gardening, horse riding with her sisters, Miller family reunions in Alberta, traveling, hiking, playing bridge with friends, reading, and skiing. She had a passion for growing orchids and her lovely home garden. For many years she was a member of the Vancouver Orchid Society and Dunbar Garden Club. She was a long time dedicated parishioner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, she volunteered at many of their events. Barbara will be remembered by family and friends for her baking, particularly her irresistible cookies and desserts.
After retirement Barbara and Bob traveled extensively to many countries on long adventures, some with unexpected situations. With her love for children, she also volunteered for years at Sunny Hill (children’s) Health Centre.
Barbara will be loved and missed by all, but those who knew her will find comfort knowing she remains with them in their hearts and memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barbara’s memory to: BC SPCA, Crossreach (adult care centre), or BC Children’s Hospital.
