Sidney (Sid) Patterson Obituary
Sidney James Patterson, aged 65, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on July 6, 2024, at home in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, comfortable in his bed. He was born on July 9, 1958, in Lestock, Saskatchewan to James and Martha Patterson. Sid and Barbara moved to High Level, Alberta in 1980 and married in 1981. He worked at the sawmill as an equipment operator and then advanced to a supervisor. Sid loved farming since childhood. He bought and cleared a quarter of land and transformed it into an organic crop in High Level. He moved to Wetaskiwin, Alberta in 2009. He worked as a mower operator at Montgomery Glen Golf and Country Club. He was a reliable, dedicated employee who took great pride in the appearance of the grounds. He also worked on a farm harvest crew for several years. Sid was a very social man who was passionate about growing huge vegetable gardens that could feed dozens of people. He was also self-taught and very skilled at both hunting and fishing. Sid also loved to collect antique items. He had a gift of naturally connecting to people of all walks of life, no matter what age, gender, education, or socioeconomic status. He also had a gift of enjoying the moment and doing what he loved daily. Sid loved muscle cars from a young age and was the proud owner of a 1972 Plymouth Barracuda, which he was restoring. His retirement plan was also to collect and restore 3-wheel trikes, for which he already had a collection of 12. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Patterson, daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and Christopher Stead, and two grandchildren, Benedict and Annalise Stead. He is also survived by his sisters, Elsie Misiurski, Shirley Holt and husband Dennis, and Stella Ogrodnick and husband Jeff. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at the Baker Funeral Chapel Inc. [5302 50 Avenue, Wetaskiwin, AB T9A 0T1] on Wednesday July 17, 2024, from 3:00PM to 4:00PM. Family, friends, and others are also invited to the Montgomery Glen Golf and Country Club [Address: Township Rd 464 Alberta 13, AB-2A, Wetaskiwin, AB T9A 2G2], on Wednesday July 17, 2024, at 7:00PM, to honor the life of Sid.
