Rene Thompson Obituary
It is with great sadness and much love that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Rene Thompson. On April 19, at the age of 88 years, she entered into rest after a courageous battle with cancer.
Rene will be deeply missed by her daughters, Carolyn (Wayne) Wait, Shelley (Don) Bisset, Susan (Dale) Woitt, and Janet (Darren) Ware; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, as well as extended relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd “Bud” Thompson; daughter, Donna Dressler; five brothers, and one sister.
On May 29, 1935, Rene was born in Holland to Maria and Huibert Prins. After WWII in 1947, she immigrated to Canada with her family.
Growing up, she had a variety of jobs and interests. Although she loved to work and keep busy, the most important thing in her life was her family. Her smile, her laughter, and her hugs will be forever remembered.
A Celebration of Rene’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024 at Grace Lutheran Church (4218 56 Ave, Wetaskiwin), with interment to follow at the Wetaskiwin Memorial Cemetery. A luncheon will be served immediately following the service.
If desired, donations in memory of Rene may be made to the Ermineskin Women’s Shelter Society (PO Box 1830, Maskwacîs, Alberta T0C 1N0)
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Season’s Retirement Community for the care and compassion they showed Rene.
