Rebecca “Beckie” Golley-Turnbull Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the passing of Rebecca Theresa Golley-Turnbull on May 4, 2024 at the Ponoka General Hospital after a short battle with breast cancer.
Beckie, as we all called her, had a good kind soul and what she lacked in height, she made up for in her larger than life smile and infectious heartwarming giggle.
Beckie was born on July 9, 1980 in Bashaw, Alberta to Scott and Vera Golley. Beckie was a quiet, resilient and sweet child growing up in a house of four girls. Beckie was never one to complain, cry or make waves. She loved her animals growing up especially her horses, cats and dogs. Beckie was an active member of Horse 4-H from age 8-18. She attended Mecca Glen School from Kindergarten to Grade 9 and graduated from Ponoka Composite Highschool in 1998. Beckie was employed at various businesses around Ponoka including office manager, office administrator, waitress, food service worker, nail technician and more. Beckie met James Turnbull, the man of her dreams, in 2011. They were married in Mexico on December 9, 2013. Beckie loved spending her time at home and with her fur babies Muppet, Link and Peter. She followed in the steps of her Mor Mor (Grandmother) Karen Sommer and was an expert cook and baker. Beckie was widely known to many for her amazing homemade buns and cinnamon buns which were an expectation at every family holiday meal. Beckie loved being an Aunt. She was known for her thoughtful and most liked gifts. She never missed a holiday, birthday, special celebration, or anniversary. Beckie was a small lady with the biggest heart.
Beckie will be remembered and deeply missed by her loving husband James Turnbull; her devoted parents Scott and Vera Golley; her three sisters Angie Golley (Shaun Lumsden), Jamie (Terry) Hoffman and Stephanie (Matthew) Stafford; her in-laws James and Terry Turnbull; sister-in-law Mari-Clare Turnbull; and brother-in-law Ian Turnbull; her nieces and nephews Mikayla and Mackenzie Hoffman, Olivia and Adin Stafford, Summer, Damien and Daniel Turnbull; along with many other aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
Beckie’s family would like to give a big thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre for all of their dedication and compassionate care that Beckie received. Also, to the staff at the Red Deer cancer clinic for their specialized care with Beckie. A special thank you to Dr. Chan and Dr. Mairs for their diligent and kind-hearted care.
Beckie was predeceased by her grandparents Jim and Terry Golley, Kresten and Karen Sommer; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
There will be a Graveside Service for Beckie on Friday, June 14, 2024 at the Earlville Rutherford Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. – ALL ARE WELCOME.
In Lieu of Flowers donations are gratefully accepted to Ponoka FCSS Cancer Fund or Old MacDonald Kennels.
“The pain of losing you may never fully go away but the love and memories we shared will comfort us every day.” Rest in peace our sweet Beckie.
