Maria “Ann” Day Obituary
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Ann Day November 22, 2023, at the age of 75 years.
Ann is survived by her daughter Nina Kelly of Battleford, SK; her grandchildren Sheena (Mitch)Washburn of North Battleford, SK, and Shane Kelly of Maidstone SK; her great-grandchildren Tegan, Natalie, Jillian and Jaxson of North Battleford, SK; she is also survived by her sisters-in-law and their families; as well as numerous cousins from across Canada and in England. She was predeceased by her parents James Unger (1998) and Valerie Unger (2008); as well as her brother Dale Unger (2020).
Ann was born February 16, 1948, in Castor, AB. She was the second child of James and Valerie Unger. In 1953 the family moved to Fort St John in N.W.T., and then settled in Hay River N.W.T where they stayed until 1968. In January of 1968 Ann gave birth to her only child Nina. Shortly after they moved to Red Deer, AB with her parents.
In 1972 she married Jim Day of Meyronne, SK. Jim was in the Military, and they then lived in Penhold AB. In 1973 Jim was transferred to Prince George, B.C. where the family stayed for two years before moving to Lahr, Germany for four years. In 1979 Jim and Ann decided to move to Meyronne, SK and take over his family farm. Ann loved the farm life and took to this life easily. In 1997 she returned to Red Deer, AB to help care for her ailing parents.
Ann was a lifetime member of the Canadian Legion. She loved being a part of the legion and held many jobs through her time there. Ann was also an avid curler. Her team from the Lafleche Legion won the provincial legion curling championship. She continued with her legion work in Red Deer until she was no longer able.
She loved to be surrounded by family and friends and enjoyed putting on parties for those she cared about. She will be forever held in the hearts of all those who knew her. Her sense of humour and quick smile for everyone will be greatly missed.
There will be a service held in the spring. Memorial Donations in Ann’s name are gratefully accepted to any charity of your choice.
