Donald Reaney Obituary
Donald Robert Reaney, 59, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024 in his home just east of Ponoka, Alberta. He was a man whose warmth, humor, and unwavering love touched countless lives and left a legacy that will be cherished forever.
Born on June 8, 1965 to Roy and Pauline Reaney, Donald grew up with a strong sense of family and a love for the outdoors. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Billy, and his beloved spouse Dawn Larson, who passed away on April 10, 2023.
Donald is survived by his three sisters: Dixie Cameron, Linda Reaney, and Roxanne Reaney; his six children: Simon Gardiner, Kristina Larson, Kayla (Travis) Malthouse, Anna (Keith) Reaney, Kaylana (Jay) Reaney, and his youngest, Chelsey (Andre) Reaney; and 16 adored grandchildren. He also leaves behind 13 nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
Donald was a dedicated and skilled scaffolder who took great pride in his work. His career wasn’t just a job, but a passion, and he loved sharing stories about his day with family and friends. His tales, often humorous, sometimes full of adventure, reflected his love for his trade and his deep camaraderie with his coworkers.
Donald was known for his adventurous spirit and his love of the outdoors. Whether hunting, fishing, camping, or sitting by a fire, he found joy in nature and often shared that joy with his family. He was an avid hockey fan who cheered for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Affectionately called “Donald Duck” by many, Donald’s ability to mimic the beloved character brought laughter to those around him. His humour, strength, and kindness were defining traits and his dedication to his family, especially his grandchildren, was unparalleled. He worked tirelessly to provide for his loved ones and approached life with determination, refusing to let anyone tell him he couldn’t achieve something.
Donald was loved by so many, and his legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt, but the memories he created will forever be cherished.
“Gone, but never forgotten. Donald’s humor, strength, and love will remain with us always.”
A celebration of Donald’s life will be held at later date, after a time of mourning.
