Obituary
Cora Anderson was carried by angels into the arms of Jesus on December 20, 2023 at 98 years of age.
Cora Wilhelmina Temple was born on April 16, 1925 to John and Margaret (Maggie) Temple on the family farm near Neudorf, Saskatchewan; the third of eight children. She was raised and schooled in the Neudorf area. On her eighteenth birthday, her parents gave her the best gift ever, her baby sister, Elaine.
Cora accepted the Lord as her Savior early in life and attended the Apostolic Church in Lemberg, Saskatchewan. When the pastor’s younger brother, Allan Anderson, came for a visit he stole her heart. After ten years of long distance courtship, he convinced her to move to Alberta. They were married on June 26, 1958. She has made Eckville her home since then.
Cora began her work life stooking hay on the family farm and later worked in a store in Indian Head, Saskatchewan. After moving to Alberta, she spent many years working in Seistrap’s Store in Eckville where she made friends with all the customers. She also worked at the Eckville Bakery. Along with her hubby, she spent many winters working for her brother-in-law, Harry Brooks, as assistant cook at the sawmill in various locations around Nordegg. Cora often said when her workday was over, she went home to start her second job: cooking, baking, gardening, and working on her many crafts which included quilting, crocheting, sewing, and needlepoint. She was very gifted in these areas as well and was a regular vendor at the farmer’s markets in and around Eckville. Cora was musically talented and often played the piano for church services. She worked faithfully, alongside Allan, to keep the doors open at the Diamond Valley Church for as long as possible.
Cora was a very gracious and kind lady, who loved to laugh, joke, and be teased. She had a very positive attitude about life and never complained even when the pain was intense. She was so grateful for the care she received in the Eckville Manor and, most recently, in the Tofield Hospital. The nurses and other health care workers who looked after her all loved her and appreciated her constant bright warm smile. We, her family, were so blessed to have Cora in our lives!
Cora trusted in her Sovereign God through all the ups and downs of life, the good times and the bad, the prosperous times and the lean years, the joyous times and the difficult and disappointing ones. She had a sincere desire to obey God’s leading in her life. These qualities are summed up in one of Cora’s favorite hymns which reads “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus.” She truly was happy in Jesus!
Cora was predeceased by her beloved husband of almost 60 years, Allan; her sisters Violet Campbell, Doreen Lowenberg, Marjorie Hahn, and Elaine Hauk; her brothers Norman and George. She is survived by her brother, Albert (Adolene), sister-in-law Jacqueline Temple; numerous nieces and nephews; and many many friends.
A Graveside Service for Cora will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Diamond Valley Cemetery – Red Deer County, Alberta.
