Clarke Van Hereweghe Obituary
If a man’s worth can be measured by the love of his family, then our Dad was rich! It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father Clarke Van Hereweghe on April 4, 2024 in Strathmore, AB. Clarke was born on August 8, 1938. He grew up in the Lacombe area and left at a young age to go and work on the oil rigs. This job eventually brought him to Hussar, AB where he met and married the love of his life Elsie Sanders. Clarke and Elsie were married in Hussar on October 9, 1960 and continued raising their family there in the community that they loved.
In the early years Clarke worked for Armsco Well Service, LK Ranches and then struck out on his own with Clarke’s Excavating. He did backhoe work for oil companies on the rig sites and for many of the farmers in the area. He made so many friends along the way. He enjoyed having a beer at the curling rink and coffee with guys at the garage.
Clarke will be loved and forever missed by his three daughters and their families:
Lotti Wheeler and her daughters Taryn Zest (Devon, Harper and Hudson) and Jena Praeker (Francis, Jack, Lexi, Nina, and Audrey)
Juli Moon (Larry) and her children Hayley Smith (Lane, Rowan and Brooke) Spencer Moon (Anna) and Carley Moon
Joni Hobson (Jim) and her sons Jason Hobson (Danielle and Sawyer) and Jamie Hobson.
He is also survived by his siblings Louis Van Hereweghe, Linda (Jim) Guilbault, Joyce Hayes and Darlene (John) Evans and sisters in-law Eileen Bunker, Helen Larsen, Shirley Marks, Bev Sanders, Zella Sanders and Marie Sanders as well as many special nieces and nephews.
Clarke was predeceased by his wife Elsie Van Hereweghe, mother Fern Van Hereweghe, father and step mother Stan and Eileen Van Hereweghe, son in-law Brantford Wheeler, brothers Harry, Glen and Stanley and sisters Marlene and Elna and sister in-laws Shirley and Joyce Van Hereweghe, brothers in-law George, Wilmur and Norm Sanders, Brian Larsen and Keith Bunker.
We would like to sincerely thank Dr. Sader, the Wheatland Lodge and Home Care and Palliative Home Care for the incredible care and support Clarke received in the past 6 months. We are truly grateful.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hussar Community Hall in Hussar, AB
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Saviours Community Lutheran Church, Box 160, 106 Center Street, Hussar, AB T0J 1S0.
