Russell’s Obituary
We are broken hearted to announce the passing of Russell Romick, resident of Slave Lake. He left this world too soon on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at the age of 55 years.
Russell was born in Edmonton Alberta to Walter and Muriel Romick. He was the 4th and youngest in the family. He came into this life with some health issues which he overcame.
He moved with his family to High Prairie in 1980 at the age of 12 and finished his education there. He went on to College in Grande Prairie studying Geology.
Russell followed in his father’s footsteps with a rewarding career that he was very proud of with Alberta Transportation for most of working years, giving everything he had and more. He was admired and respected by coworkers and those he worked with through the years. His dedication was admirable.
The last 5 years had been a struggle for him dealing with kidney failure. But as most know, he never missed a beat and continued on as if life was easy for him. But it was far from easy.
He left this world a better place. He gave freely and appreciated EVERYTHING in life. Feeling happy and grateful for each new day and a job he loved, even though each new day was a struggle. No complaints from him.
Russell was predeceased by his father, Walter Romick. He will be, and is, missed so very much already by his mother Muriel Romick, brothers Ric Romick (Jeanne), Bruce Romick (Shelley) and sister Katherine Campbell (Brian); Aunt & Uncle Margaret & Ray Procter; nephews Danny, Ryan & Kevin Campbell, Nicholas Romick; nieces Jen & Elizabeth Romick, Stephanie Romick, Kaitie Koch and Amy Hunter along with many great nieces and nephews.
Thank you to all his caring Dialysis nurses in Slave Lake and High Prairie who took such good care of Russ the past few years who he spoke so highly of. Also thanks to the many doctors and nurses at High Prairie and Slave Lake hospitals as well as the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.
Donations made to the Alberta Kidney Foundation would be welcome and please remember to sign your donor cards.
Family will be having a small private get together to support each other and share memories. Please do take the time to leave a small note or story about Russell if you were lucky enough to have known him, as family would love to hear more about this wonderful man who is no longer able to share his own stories.
