Born in New Westminster BC to Sonia and John Boersma
Mike grew up in the Fraser valley surrounded by a big family. In the early 80’s Mike made his way to the Slave Lake area where he began his oil patch life and career. Michael made friends that would be lifelong and some he considered as his Family.
Mike was real. Unapologetically himself. Hilarious. Kindhearted. Brilliant.
Mike was very mechanically minded-loved to create and fix things. There was always a design in his head of something cool that he wanted to put together from scratch. When it came to all things with a motor-If Mike couldn’t fix it-it was “hooped”.
Mike loved the outdoors camping, hunting, gold panning, jet boating, scuba diving, flying his drone, fishing and foraging were his favourite things to do.
Mike loved to cook for others- honey garlic anything, smoked fish, beef jerky and pierogies were his specialties.
If Mike ever cooked for you over an open fire, you were special.
If you ever received a rock from Mike know that you were special, they were his currency.
If you received a plant from Mike with firm instructions “do not kill it”- you were special.
If Mike forced you to grab the wheel and drive his Jet Boat, you were special.
If you ever got one of Mike’s, awesome hugs, you were special.
I’ve had the pleasure of sharing my life with Michael the past 34 years or so. We have had such an adventure. Michael gave me the very best days of his life and together we supported each other through some of the worst. We raised two fantastic humans, built a home and travelled the world together. Michael was so proud of his kids and would do absolutely anything for them. He loved spending time with Jesse and Ezra and usually found a way to make things way more fun.
Our Family has lost a husband, a father, a brother, an uncle, a nephew, a cousin and a good friend.
We thank our Community for all the generous support.
