Bill’s Obituary
William (Bill) Konowalyk, lifelong resident of Grimshaw, Alberta passed away on June 5, 2024 at home with family, at the age of 88 years.
Born March 17, 1936 in Grimshaw, Alberta the 9th child of Metro and Joanna Konowalyk.
Bill married Lila Seppola on June 20, 1958 at the age of 22. At age 33 he became a father to their son Lyle and 2 years later they had their daughter Lisa who completed their family.
Bill farmed their 1/4 section of land and was an automotive mechanic for Junction Motors. When he retired from the automotive industry, he finished his career doing various tasks at Macmillan Construction.
Bills hobbies/interests were hunting and fishing; He went hunting with his son-in-law Dwayne to the Ya Ha Tinda area for an elk hunt, as well as a salmon fishing trip off Vancouver Island with his son Lyle, where they stayed out on the boat and fished from dawn till dusk. He spoke many times of these trips. Bill and Lila enjoyed many days fishing on Slave Lake with their boat, where they always welcomed anyone to join them.
He planted a garden every year and loved the fresh grown tomatoes. He was also the best wild strawberry and blueberry picker ever; with his large hands he never squished a berry.
Bill and Lila celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2023.
Bill was predeceased by his father and mother, Metro and Joanna Konowalyk; his brothers and sisters Edgar Konowalyk, Victor Konowalyk, Johnny Konowalyk, Peter Konowalyk, Albert Konowalyk, Sonny Konowalyk, Rosalie Podolchuk, Anne Ohland, Josephine Slipchuck, Margaret Fordyce and Mary Woolston.
Bill is survived by his wife Lila; Son Lyle (Colleen); Daughter Lisa (Dwayne) Thomas; Grandchildren Brittany Sande, Kesha Williams (Bennett), Kaylee Konowalyk, Justin Thomas, Sidney Thomas; Great Grandchildren Rylen Sande, Weston Sande and Harper Williams; Brothers George Konowalyk and Frank Konowalyk; Sister Marjorie Streeter; as well as many nieces, nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at Lisa and Dwayne Thomas’s on June 14, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.
