Maxine Inis Girard, beloved sister, daughter, aunt and friend passed away in Edmonton, AB on July 12, 2024. She is survived by twin sister Arlene (Amber), brother Randy Girard (Jane Girard), niece Renana Hancock, nephew Sean Naslund (Dina Naslund), and great-nephews Kodiak and Brannoc Hannahs. She was predeceased by father and mother, George and Mary Girard, and elder sister Janice Taylor.
She was born in Wainwright, AB, along with her twin sister Arlene on September 19, 1952. Her older sister Janice (Taylor) took her under her wing and they shared a lifelong friendship, sometimes living and traveling together. A younger brother, Randy, joined the family four years later. All the siblings maintained a lifelong bond and commitment to each other.
Maxine had a great love for Jesus with whom she had a personal relationship. She enjoyed various churches and made deeply connected friendships that lasted decades. She worked for Evangelical Tract Distributors for 17 years, making a difference to many worldwide missions.
She loved travel, especially Hawaii and Mexico with her sisters, brother, and beloved sister-in-law, Jane.
Max, as she was often fondly called, enjoyed reading, crafts, television, and movies. She was an avid backgammon player, gleefully loving to win but also quick to congratulate others. Card and board games also captured her interest.
Over the years she worked in clerical, post office, switchboard, and stockbroker offices. She also enjoyed the food server industry. However, where she really shone was as a caregiver to seniors. She gave them back their dignity and sanity, and a greater quality of life. Her concern for others was genuine and sincere.
Family and friends are grateful for Max’s giving nature, her service to others, and her sense of humor.
A special thank you goes out to Randy and Jane Girard for their diligent care and attention to Max’s many needs over the last few years.
The immediate family had an intimate time together where her ashes were spread in a meaningful and loving way. We invite you who knew and loved Maxine to pay your own respects in a way and time that feels right to you. Thank you for your love and regard.
Most of all, Maxine loved to meet people and was an outgoing person who never met a stranger. We love you, Max, thanks for being unique and wonderful you!
