The family of Marie-Josee (Maisy) Kirkpatrick mourns her peaceful passing at the age of 86. Maisy has two sons, Stephan (Wendy) and Michael (Wendy) as well as four grandchildren, Candace, Christopher (Carissa), Ashlyn and Riley. Her legacy continues with her great grandchildren Charley, Cayd and Cash. She will forever be remembered and loved by them as well as her family in Luxembourg and her many friends and extended family in the Edmonton area.
Our mom’s story is a remarkable and yet a very Canadian one. Having survived the ravages of WWII, in 1958, our mom, then a 21 year old newlywed, followed her husband across the Atlantic from the safety of her home and cherished family in Luxembourg, to the brutal Northern Canadian wilderness in search of a new life. She faced many harsh difficulties, the weather, wild animals, isolation, not to mention not knowing a word of the language. The resiliency, strength, and resolve she learned in those early years helped her to become the strong woman that we all knew and loved. What followed was kindness, compassion, a true joy for the life she created; always felt by everyone around her.
Eventually, Maisy would forge her own path in Edmonton, Alberta, along with her sons, Stephan and Michael. She worked for many years at Eaton’s in West Edmonton Mall, helping endless women dress for special occasions in the women’s wear department. This position was truly made for Maisy as everyone who knew her would understand. She was always dressed to the nines, with impeccable taste and style.
In her later years, Maisy would meet her soulmate and best friend; Gerald Kirkpatrick. The two of them created a new life together and they were much loved by all who knew them. Gerry sadly passed away in 2010 and was deeply missed by Maisy and the family. We find solace in knowing that they are together once again.
Maisy’s final years found friendship with those around her at Silver Birch Lodge in Sherwood Park, Alberta. Many of her neighbors at the lodge will remember her sparkling personality, sense of style and amazing dancing! The family is very thankful for the friendships she made there as well as the employees who took such a great interest in her.
We are deeply saddened by Maisy’s loss. Her life lessons and outlook on the world will be cherished by us all and practiced well into the future. We are truly thankful for spending the time we had together; she will be incredibly missed by all of us.
A sincere thank you to all of the doctors and nurses at the Misericordia Hospital who showed great care and compassion to Maisy during her stay.
The family will be celebrating Maisy’s life at a private function in the future. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers during this time. They are much appreciated.
