It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Lorna (Loreena) Martin, nee Jansen (84) on November 11th, 2024 in Sherwood Park, Alberta. Lorna was born in Altona, Manitoba in 1940 to Peter and Dorothy Jansen. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, Patrick, and brother, Bob. Lorna was the kindest soul you could ever meet, and someone you treasured having in your life. In addition to her many artistic talents, such as oil painting, crocheting and needlepoint, she was an incredible baker, and could be found whipping up yet another batch of delicious cookies, muffins or berry crisps in her kitchen. She enjoyed an active lifestyle, meeting friends for exercise classes and coffee visits, and walking with Tia, her adopted dog. She and Pat loved to travel, and enjoyed many vacations to exotic destinations over the years. But perhaps their favorite memories came from camping trips with family and friends. During her working years, Lorna was considered one of the Sherwood Park News’s most loyal and dedicated employees. Those close to her admired her values, evidenced by the countless years performing volunteer work for organizations such as the Canadian Blood Services. Lorna is survived by her son Russell (Bev) Martin, daughter Linda Martin (Marcel Ouellette), grandchildren Zach Bobowsky, Danika Phinney (Brad), Jesse Martin and Brady Martin. Family members are thankful for the love and support of her many caregivers at Sherwood Care. Lorna’s friendly disposition and kind heart are already missed by her family and friends. A celebration of life will be held privately.
