Valerie Beatrice Leeming passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the age of 97 years. Valerie was born in London, England, immigrating to Canada in 1952, where she married Dennis Horlock and raised their family, residing first in Vancouver, British Columbia and then in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia. Valerie made many trips across the pond to visit relatives and eventually returned to live there with her second husband, John. After John’s death, she returned to Canada settling in Red Deer. Valerie was an active volunteer in Red Deer for many years and was honored with a Mayor’s Recognition Award for her service to the community. She was also an accomplished dancer having been a member of the Scottish Country Dancers for many years. Valerie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Susanjane Horlock, Ian Horlock (Donna) and Derek Horlock; her grandchildren, Valerie (Matthew), Kristine (Chad), Ryan (Tiffany), Sarah (Dwayne) and Taylor (Henry); her greatgrandchildren, Benjamin, Sawyer and Kaylynn, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 4929 – 54 Street, Red Deer, Alberta. If desired, and in lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations in Valerie’s honor may be made directly to St. Luke’s Anglican Church or to a charity of your choice. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Unit 33 at the Red Deer Hospital, and to those who provided Home Care for Valerie.
