It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sheila Harwood on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at the age of 88 years. Sheila Harwood was born on August 9, 1935, in Surrey, United Kingdom approximately fifteen miles Southeast of Buckingham Palace, London. Her early years were spent experiencing the turmoil of World War II. She grew up to be a very capable shorthand typist in several offices in London. At the age of thirty-three she emigrated to California, United States of America to be with and marry her soul mate Reginald Harwood. In 2001, following Reginald’s passing, she became a landed immigrant in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in order to be closer to her brother, Ray Thorpe and his wife, Barbara Szubert. A lot of Sheila’s time in Western Canada was spent travelling extensively with her beloved dog, “Smudgie” in her motorhome and she dearly loved the friends that she met in a local RV club, including Alec and Diane. Sheila will be dearly missed by her many friends and Godchildren, Sissy and Billy. She was such a giving person and helped so many people in her life. Sheila will be lovingly remembered by her brother, Ray and his wife Barbara, her sister, Dorothy and her family in the United Kingdom. She will also be sadly missed by her close friends, Donabel and family, and Carlos and Letty and family. A Celebration of Sheila’s Life will be held at a later date. If desired, Memorial Donations in Sheila’s honor may be made directly to AARCS Animal Rescue, 5060 – 74 Avenue SE, Calgary, Alberta T2C 3C9 as they kindly arranged rehoming Sheila’s dog.
