Daniel Joseph Dyrland, known fondly by most as “Danny”, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2024, at the age of 83 year at the Provost Health Centre.
He was born in Eckville Alberta on February 11, 1941, to parents, Joe and Helen Dyrland. Eckville remained “home” for most of his life, near to many of his siblings. He spent his early years working for Commonwealth Drilling, which carried him as far north as Bathurst Island, Nunavut. Around the early 1970’s, Danny returned closer to home and started working for various oilfield companies before starting out on his own as an independent contractor in oilfield services, eventually contracting with Petro Canada.
Apart from work, Danny held a lifelong love of rodeo. He was a founding member of the Gimlet Rodeo Company alongside dear friends Bill Houston and Rodney Tolonen. His true happy place was always “out west”. Danny spent many weekends in the mountains fishing and hunting, a passion he made sure to pass on to his family. Danny was always so fond of the time he got to spend traveling around with the rodeo and visiting with friends over coffee. He loved visiting and was often known to crack a joke with whomever he sat next to.
Danny is survived by his two Daughters Billie Jo (Darryl) Rossing of Consort, Alberta and Cindylee (Trevor) Smith of Malwaka, British Columbia; Grandchildren, Dustin Stuber, Carly Sweetnam, Caitlyn Rossing, Rachel Rossing, Kristen Rossing, Mackenzie Schneider, and Tristen Schneider; Sisters, Joyce Maddox, Myrna Scott, Trudy (Brian) Playfair; Brothers, Larry (Marlene) Dyrland and Sam (Judy) Dyrland; Billie and Cindy’s mom, Jeanette (Terry) Butterworth; special lifelong friends, Bill & Lorraine Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Danny was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Helen Dyrland; Grandson, Stefan Nadeau; Niece, Glenda MacDonald; Nephew, Cyle Playfair; Brothers-in-law, Bill Maddox and George Scott; Dear Friend, Alfred Metro (AKA “Mex” in the Tex and Mex duo); and his “Princess Spot” – the Jack Russel that had his whole heart.
At Danny’s request there will be no funeral, but a memorial service will take place later in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Provost Hospital Auxiliary
