Katie’s Obituary
It is with profound sadness that the family of Catherine Diana Gagnon (Katie) announce her peaceful passing on March 16, 2024 in Peace River, Alberta.
Catherine was born in Grimshaw, Alberta on October 21, 1988 to David and Janet (Buholzer) Reyda. She grew up on the family farm near Berwyn alongside her twin brothers Patrick and Alexander and began her schooling in Berwyn. Her early childhood was spent playing with her cousins, riding in Daddy’s noisy boat, watching calves being born, trying to find where mama hid her kittens and enjoying all the other things that come with farm life.
The abiding passion of her young life was her horses and she spent countless hours at the stable riding and hanging out. Katie and her mum travelled around the area to many clinics and shows, making the most wonderful memories together.
After graduating from Glenmary School in 2007, Katie took a course in recreation therapy in Edmonton and spent the next few years working with special needs individuals in Peace River and Grimshaw. Glenmary was also where Katie met the young man who would one day become her husband.
On a beautiful day in July 2013, Katie and Richard were married and she began the life that she was meant for: wife and mother to Adélie, born in 2016; and Emilie, born in 2019. She delighted in every aspect of being a mother to her girls and was immensely proud of the bright, beautiful and loving little girls they are.
Katie was predeceased by her father Dave Reyda in 2013; brother Alex Reyda in 2016; and her father-in-law Michel ‘Mike’ Gagnon in 2021. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband Richard; daughters Adélie and Emilie; her devoted mother Janet Reyda; brother Patrick Reyda; very special auntie Diane Kinderwater; mother-in-law Yvonne Gagnon; sisters-in-law Jeannette Parry, Pauline (Carl) Dubé, Michelle (Keith) Felix; brothers-in-law Antoine Gagnon (Sonia Jolicoeur), Adrien (Morgan) Gagnon and their families and many, many uncles, aunts, and cousins.
